    There are so many cases of high-functioning anxiet There are so many cases of high-functioning anxiety that are ignored and, over time, cause havoc on a person's body and nervous system!
But, what do you do when you have that sense of anxiety, overwhelm, or time pressure?
1. You may not even fully know why you are feeling anxious at that particular moment.
2. Your heart starts racing; your stomach contracts, your shoulders, and muscles feel tense.
3. You start having anxious thoughts like “everyone is doing better than me,” “I'm broken, or “I'm not good enough.”
4. A story of shame starts playing in your head, and you start spiraling into sad and negative thoughts.

    In this case, someone may say they're doing well b In this case, someone may say they're doing well because of the pressure they put on themselves to appear that way.
This person might also find it difficult to accept help from others or to allow others into their life because that would require them to be vulnerable and open up about their anxiety.
There are so many cases of high-functioning anxiety that are ignored and, over time, cause havoc on a person's body and nervous system!
That's because people tend to associate anxiety with what we see on TV or in movies - someone very visibly upset, unable to function normally, or even panicking.
However, anxiety takes many forms.
A lot of the time it's internalized and we don't realize how anxious we really are until we hit a breaking point and blow up over something small and insignificant, or the anxiety becomes so overwhelming that we fall apart at the seams.

    When your anxiety or anger is through the roof, ho When your anxiety or anger is through the roof, how difficult is it to ""think"" your way out of it? It's almost impossible. And the reason is that you're just not designed to work that way.
When you're overwhelmed by difficult emotions, your body and nervous system are designed to shut down all higher brain functions.
None of them are fully available to you.
You're in survival mode, and you simply cannot think, coordinate or cooperate with others. You're operating from a fraction of your abilities.
We change these reactions by going to the body first, not the brain.

    But how do I know if what I am experiencing is tra But how do I know if what I am experiencing is trauma? 🔽
Our fear system has two main fetatures, when acting within a healthy range:
1. The internal reaction is proportionate to the degree of risk by the external circumstance.
2. It is highly flexible and so it is able to get back into a regulated state when the perceived danger is removed.
If 1. or 2. are out of whack chances are your current reaction stems from a previous event that has embedded a traumatic response into your nervous system.
