I’ve had 30 plus years of how I’ve coped with things, and it’s rewiring my brain.

For over 30 years, I’ve coped in very specific ways. Certain thoughts, certain reactions — that’s just how I’ve always handled things. Now I’m noticing when my nervous system is activating. I’m catching myself and slowing it down. Instead of going straight into catastrophizing, I can pause. I did not raise my voice. I did not spiral. It feels like it’s rewiring my brain. Not in a dramatic way — but in those small, daily repetitions. It’s like, okay, this is what I need to do in this moment instead of the way I’ve dealt with it before. After decades of reacting the same way, that feels huge.
